Privacy policy

Modern Calendar is a personal desktop calendar. It is designed to keep your calendar database on your own computer. This policy explains what happens when you use its optional connected features.

Information stored on your computer

Events, calendar details, attendees, todos, reminders, notes, preferences and similar app data are stored in a SQLite database on your computer. Backups you create are also saved where you choose. The app does not send this local database to a Modern Calendar server because there is no developer-operated calendar server.

When you connect Google Calendar, the app stores the OAuth client secret and refresh token in the local database in encrypted form using the operating system’s secure storage. Other calendar content in the local database is not encrypted by Modern Calendar; protect your computer and database files accordingly.

Google Calendar

If you connect a Google account, Modern Calendar requests permission to view and manage Google Calendar data and to identify the connected account. The app uses Google’s APIs to list your calendars and to sync events between Google and your computer. You choose which Google calendars are synced in the app. If enabled, notes can also be synced as all-day Google Calendar events.

Calendar information handled for sync can include event titles, descriptions, dates and times, locations, recurrence rules, reminders, calendar colours and attendee details or RSVP responses. This information is exchanged directly between Modern Calendar and Google using your authorization. Google handles information it receives under its own privacy terms.

When you add attendees to an event, Google Calendar may send invitations on your behalf. If you separately configure Gmail email invites in the app, event and recipient details are sent through the Gmail SMTP service to deliver those invitations.

You can disconnect Google in Modern Calendar or revoke the app’s access from your Google Account. Disconnecting stops future API access; it does not automatically delete events already stored in your local database or copies already present in Google Calendar.

Optional weather

If weather forecasts are enabled, Modern Calendar sends the coordinates of your chosen location to Open-Meteo’s forecast service to retrieve weather data. When you search for a location in the app, the search text is sent to Open-Meteo’s geocoding service. Forecasts are cached locally for a short period. The app does not use device GPS for this feature.

Open-Meteo handles requests under its own privacy policy and service terms.

Analytics and sale of data

Modern Calendar does not include advertising, analytics or a developer-run service that collects your calendar contents. Your personal calendar data is not sold or shared by the app developer. Information is sent to Google or Open-Meteo only when needed for the connected feature you use, as described above.

Retention and your choices

Your local data remains on your computer until you delete it or remove the database and backups. Google-synced copies are managed in your Google account. You can turn off weather, disable Google sync, remove local entries, export your data or delete local backups using the app and your operating system.

Changes and contact

This policy may be updated when the app’s data practices change. The latest version will be published on this page with its updated date.
